UGANDA: Mount Elgon and moroto birding tour
Have breakfast to transfer to Mt Elgon National Park. The journey takes you through Mukono, district the Mabira forest, Jinja and Iganga offering you Beautiful sceneries of the forest, Sugarcane and tea estates, and the Owen falls dam. You will reach in the evening and then do birding at the entrance of the park. Expect birds like Francolins, moorland and many more. Overnight at the Forest Exploration centre.
You will spend the whole day birding in the park / forest along the mountain bamboo trail which is 7 km and it that traverses variety of montane habitat. This search along this loop will reward you with birds like fugivores, Olive pigeons, mountain green bull, Shelley’s green bulls, stuhlman’s starling, mountain and Augur buzzards, Nightjars and many more. Overnight at Forest Exploration centre.
Head to Moroto after breakfast to bird enroute. Expect birds like white headed Buffalo weaver, Pygmy falcon, Jackson’s Hornbill and many more. Overnight at Moroto Hotel.
Take a cup of coffee to leave at Dawn to bird for Dusky, pennant winged and slender tailed Nightjars. You will drive south from the T junction to follow the road to Moroto seminary that runs around the base of the mountain from the southern edge of Moroto town to pass arid, rocky slopes that are homes to birds like the rare Hemprich’s Hornbill, Fan tailed raven, long billed pipit, and Jameson’s firefinch the spectacular white crested and many more. Overnight at Moroto Hotel.
Have breakfast to transfer back to Kampala. You will have a lunch stop in any town of your wish to proceed and reach in the late evening. Overnight at Hotel Africa/ Sheraton Hotel.
